Hotaru is short, about 5'3", with an average build. He has fair skin but can tan easily. He has short but shaggy brown hair parted to one side. Hotaru has brown eyes with noticably long lashes behind his glasses. Comically, he is often depicted with his classes blocking his eyes entirely. Hotaru is often smiley and overall particularly expressive.
Fashion
Hotaru likes fun fashion that's easy to move in, with bright colors colors, reminiscent of shinora . Common outfits include aloha shirts with cargo shorts, sometimes with dangling suspenders. At home, he dresses down more, but still wears bright colors. His house slippers are notably bright pink.

Overview
Hotaru is described as being sweet and kind with a puppy-like personality. He is a bit naive and clueless but eager to learn. His gentle demeanor make his interests surprising, similar to the gap between Hime-sensei and her work. He is sometimes stubborn and can get ahead of himself. He gets along easily with many kinds of people, and is deeply earnest.

Overview
Hotaru mistakenly applies for an fujo-only apartment, thinking it's generally for up-and-coming mangaka and other authors. Mutually they realize he's a gay man and he realizes they're gay fujoshi. Given his disposition and he's the best candidate for the apartment so far, they decide to teach him how to be a fudanshi before Rei-sama comes back from vacation.
Before meeting the Fujos, Hotaru previously enjoyed shounen and had just started to get into geikomi. Since making the jump, he finds he enjoys both geikomi and BL, appreciating their contrasts. His best friend at the Fujo House is Satoru. He is friends with all the other fujin as well. He finds Hijikata-sensei confusingly attractive. Initially he worried about not getting along with Hime-sensei, but his fears were unfounded. Otaku-sensei was the easiest to befriend for him. When he finally meets Rei-sama, he finds her deeply intimidating.
Trivia
- Hotaru is based on Kep! But like. if he were a Japanese mangaka LOL the premise of ROTTEN!!! came from my coauthor Kep referring to me as "fujoshi/ero-sensei" and snowballed from there, with me calling him "Fudanshi-kun."
- His animal motif is meant to be a complimentary choice to Satoru.
- Hotaru's ideal voice claim is Hiro Shimono.
- Hotaru's favorite artist is Gengoroh Tagame.
- Hotaru's comes in #4 in ass rankings and #6 in chest rankings, as he is flat-chested.
Art Trade/Fan Art Notes
- If you’re depicting Hotaru naked, you can opt to give him top surgery scars of any variety, or draw him pre-op. He has been on testosterone for a decently long period, and has an average T-dick. He is generally hairy but his face is very young and smooth-looking. He has a happy trail and chest hair, most importantly.
- If you want to depict Hotaru as a kemonomimi/fursona/animal, he would be some kind of dog.
- NSFW RULES: Extra emphasis on no ship art with Satoru & respecting incompatible sexualities. However, pretty much anything else is on the table.
