Appearance

General

Sozoki is 175cm/5'9" with a lean muscular build. He has fair skin but can tan easily. He is very classically bishounen archetype in terms of the face--long eyelashes, androgynous features. He has long black hair usually worn in a high ponytail with a messy front fringe and green eyes. Sozoki has noticable self harm scars on his forearms and upper thighs. In his third year of high school, he gets a wisteria flower tattooed above his hip in a fit of mania.

For post-story appearances, Sozoki begins going gray in his late 30s.

Fashion

Outside of school/work/judo, he likes vkei fashion + aesthetics. Sometimes he wears makeup--at minimum smudgy eyeliner, at most full vkei styles. He also sometimes paints his nails black. He likes to play with gender presentation, alternating between jeans and skirts. His favorite color to wear is black. When he wears yukatas, he favors more feminine patterns like florals and butterflies which his aunt sews or thrifts for him. When he can get away with it, he wears thigh-high socks, but otherwise prefers tabi socks with patterns. In Within Temptation, he wears a hoodie with a dragon on the back and a striped scarf in the winter. He'll hold onto those until he outgrows them in his late 20s.

Accessories

In #1 Within Temptation , Kitano gifts Sozoki two heirloom hairsticks; one with a hanafuda design and the other with a butterfly charm. He will wear these on special occasions.

As an adult, he gets multiple ear piercings.

Personality

Overview

Sozoki is generally described as good of heart and dumb of ass. An ace student, he graduated at the top of his class but fumbles socially with understanding cues and doesn't make friends easily besides his closest friends, Shib and Kiriyama. Sozoki is sometimes moody and quick to anger, especially in his youth or during episodes. He is also very, very horny, nearly always DTF.

Sozoki is very emotional and notably cries often. He doesn't call them this, but he is prone to meltdowns when he has his episodes. In middle school and parts of high school, he was bullied for being sensitive and gender nonconforming. He often fought these bullies back physically, eventually leading him to judo.

Deep down, he is insecure about how others perceive him and if anyone actually likes him. Sozoki relies on verbal praise to feel loved. He is very attached to his sensei, Kitano, and sees him as a source, if not the source, of his happiness. Because he doesn't get along with most of his peers, he considers himself different and leans on Kitano for comfort, safety, and love.

Likes/Dislikes

Sozoki likes sweets like taiyaki and macarons and dislikes beer and mushrooms.

Sozoki enjoys almost all music, but he prefers rock & metal and their subgenres.

Sozoki's favorite animal is the fox, particularly silver foxes.

Sozoki's name in kanji is: 騒々己 (Noisy/Boisterous + Self) 苦難美 (Suffering + Beauty.)
Sozoki's ideal voice claims are Yuma Uchida (jpn) and Chester Bennington (eng).
Despite that Sozoki is a musician, it's revealed in Within Temptation that he can't read sheet music.
Sozoki is ambidextrous.
Though never diagnosed formally in canon, Sozoki is bipolar and autistic.
